During the conference, the Deoleo sustainability protocol was explained, along with its objectives and how it is being implemented within the Soil O-Live project. Soil contaminants and the effects of copper and antibiotic use on the soil were also discussed.
This Soil O-Live workshop in Portugal is the second international workshop this year, following the one held in Greece, and another is expected to be held soon in Italy. These training sessions join the dozens of sustainability workshops held in Spain and Portugal over the last two years, which have spread the word among more than 1,000 farmers about the importance of soil care for maintaining olive trees and the quality of olive oil.
