The Soil O-live project begins a new phase, the soil restoration phase, which will last 24 months. During this phase, different actions will be carried out on the selected farms that were diagnosed in the first phase of the project.
One of these restoration strategies consists of implementing different combinations of amendments (compost and biochar) in the soil of the farm to study their effect. In the case of biochar, its application will be tested in two ways, leaving it on the surface around the olive tree and burying it in the first layer of soil using an infiltration device.
The aim of this restoration phase, which will be carried out simultaneously in all the countries participating in the project, is to increase soil health in general, what is expected to be reflected in the improvement of different parameters.
In the coming months, other restoration strategies will be tested, such as electroremediation or the application of bioinoculants, which are intended to continue to improve soil health and provide solutions to specific problems identified in the project, such as the presence of different types of pollutants in these soils and the low biodiversity they harbour.
